January 2025. I'm standing in my living room staring at sweeping views of the black, Los Angeles sky. The wind is screaming, and I can see fire in the distance. My iPhone is pushing constant alerts warning an entire city to be ready to run.
I am four times more likely to die tonight, and I don't know how to prevent it.
I have severe hearing loss and live alone. That night I fall asleep knowing if the evacuation order comes for me, I won't hear it.
I wake safely, but the danger is far from over. I begin searching for the device I need to save my life.
